Do you have a smart alarm solution? Read about the benefits and technical features of using Nabto for your smart alarms:

Smart alarms and remote control with P2P-based IoT

Cavius produces smart alarms with a focus on high levels of security, reliability and quality design in compact-sized products. The company’s first product on the market was a travel alarm, and in 2010 Cavius introduced the world’s smallest smoke detector with an EN-approved micro-design and additional special features. Today the ‘Cavius Wireless Family’ alarm series consist of smoke-, heat- and flood-detection alarms, PIR/motion sensors and window/door sensors.

Cavius wanted to provide home alarms that were superior to the usual standard alarm solutions and in 2018 added a hub to its series of alarm solutions. The hub works as a monitor for the alarms in the ‘Cavius Wireless Family’ and enables you to manage all your Cavius devices from any location through an app. To make this remote feature possible, Nabto technology was added to the software of the hub.

’’The hub is a great addition for our product line. Thanks to Nabto technology we now have a product that enables the user to remotely control any alarm from the entire Cavius Wireless Family,’’

Through the hub, you can easily set up and monitor your different smart alarm devices. To do this the hub needs to be connected to a network and then be set up with the ‘Cavius Alarm’ app that you can download on your smartphone. After the hub and the app are connected, you can add your different devices from the Cavius Wireless Family, and then access these no matter where you are.

So what are the exact features of the hub? Along with providing security, an enjoyable user experience is the clear focus in all Cavius’ products. As mentioned above, the hub is easily set up and works from any destination. The Nabto peer-to-peer technology enables a direct connection from hub to the app – the direct connection means minimum possible latency (delay). In case of an alarm being triggered – for example by smoke – the wireless alarm will send a warning via the hub to the app and notify you right away. When the alarm notifies you, it is important that the communication is immediate so you can react quickly.

The hub enables multiple users access with individual privileges. Extra users – for example, family members or neighbors – can be added during the setup of the hub, while phones and email addresses can be set up as digital recipients to receive a push notification when an alarm goes off (e-mail recipients can also receive SMS messages and other notifications).

’’Nabto’s technology has contributed to a both secure and simple solution. It is very important for us that the app is easy and intuitive to use for the users, and the option of multiple users is just another smart feature that eliminates a common problem. You can, for example, effortlessly add your neighbor, either temporarily or permanently, to receive notifications.’’

Another very useful feature of the Nabto technology in the hub is that it enables you to test the devices whenever you like. This is done through the app where you can choose an alarm to make a sound. Of perhaps greater importance is the app will periodically remind you to test your smart alarm, and send notifications when the battery starts running low.

NABTO TECHNOLOGY THAT HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN THE CAVIUS HUB:

  • Central control and configuration through Nabto RPC from server applications
  • Notifications on initiative of target devices through Nabto Push
