Introduction to the Nabto IoT Platform pricing
When using Nabto, you need to purchase a license for each individual embedded device and for the server software (the Nabto basestation) that mediates connections between clients and devices. We do not charge anything for the client software.
The Nabto basestation can either be hosted by Nabto or by yourself (on-premise hosting). If Nabto hosts the basestation, there will be a yearly hosting fee. If you host yourself (on-premise hosting), there will, of course, be no hosting fee – but the on-premise basestation license is higher.
The pricing scheme is described in further detail on each tab to the left and with several examples for typical scenarios. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions! We are ready on the chat, on e-mail ([email protected]) and on phone (+45-70218040).

You need a license for each device running an application developed using the uNabto SDK. The license allows the device to register with the Nabto basestation.
The price for the device license is relatively small with good volume discounts and you only pay it once in the device’s lifetime. You need a device license regardless of how the basestation is hosted (on-premise or Nabto-hosted).
The device license is a one-time payment.
Nabto-hosted Solution
With the Nabto Hosted solution, you pay for the basestation license and for hosting of the basestation.

** This is excl. the device license fee, software maintenance and support. The basestation yearly hosting, software maintenance and support will be charged yearly.
Basestation license
The basestation license is a one-off fee you pay to use the Nabto server software. The license fee reflects the number of purchased device licenses supported by the basestation – lower license tiers support fewer devices and comes with fewer additional benefits, whereas higher tiers allow more devices and provide further benefits. For instance, source code escrow is only an option for the 3 highest tiers. See the pricing matrix for which exact benefits maps to each tier.
The basestation license fee is always paid, regardless of hosting type. If you decide to host yourself, it requires an on-premise basestation license which is roughly 2x the Nabto-hosted basestation license fee.
Basestation hosting
If choosing the Nabto hosting option (ie, with the lower basestation license fee), there is a yearly hosting fee and a one-time setup fee.
Different hosting tiers are provided – higher hosting tiers support more devices and come with more benefits and improved quality hosting. For instance, if you only have 4.000 devices but need 99.9% SLA, you need the Gold tier. On the other hand, if you have 25.000 devices but don’t care about SLA, you still need the Gold tier.
The hosting fee includes traffic cost for device signaling – and connection establishment as well as RPC and stream relay cost after a fair use scheme. Traffic cost is charged separately beyond “fair use” – and also typically for video solutions that allow relay. A flat rate traffic agreement that includes video is an option, contact us in this regard.

Basestation hosted on-premise
While there is no running hosting fee for the on-premise hosted option, it is required with mandatory engineering assistance from Nabto to set up an on-premise solution. We will provide a quote for this, depending on your specific scenario. It is optional to choose software maintenance and support, which is paid yearly. The first year of software maintenance is included free of charge.
FAQ
Yes, you pay for a basestation license to use the Nabto basestation (server) software and a device license to allow the individual device to register with the Nabto basestation.
Yes, both the device license and the basestation license are one-time fees.
If you choose a Nabto-hosted solution, there will be a yearly fee for the basestation hosting. The optional software maintenance and support are also charged yearly. These prices can be found under the Nabto-hosted solution or On-premise solution.
Yes. The license fee is for the right to use the software. The hosting fee is for running the software, ie for infrastructure and associated labor cost. It is possible to only pay for the license, ie just for the right to use the software, if you host yourself. Read more about on-premise hosting here.
The cheapest solution is to start with the Bronze version for a small cost with a bit of support included, but you can buy extra help if you need it. It is possible to do a full implementation just by reading the documentation.
Yes, if you go to the Nabto Cloud Console you can download free licenses and get access to the basestation and documentation.
When you upgrade from one version to another you will get a discount corresponding to 50% of the price for the previous version you purchased. For example, you upgrade from Silver to Gold and pay the full price of the Gold version subtracted 50% of the Silver version. There is no discount going from bronze to Silver.
Yes, it is mandatory if you have a Nabto-hosted solution, but if you choose an on-premise solution it is optional.
Standard support enables and ensures the customer that when an error is detected in the Nabto software platform, Nabto will fix this error.
The standard support covers that the error has to be reproducible in a standard setup. So the customer needs to find the closest similar platform and reproduce the problem. Option for specific support of customers platform is available.
The basestation software will be updated centrally in the “hosted by Nabto” environments. In on-premise installations, where the customer is handling the hosting tasks, is this the responsibility of the customer. The software maintenance also provides access to the code to clients and devices. Nabto is not obligated to maintain code developed by the customer.
Standard support is within working hours. 24/7 support enables customers to contact Nabto and get support outside business hours.
Pricing Examples
EXAMPLE 1: Nabto-hosted solution with 1,000 devices
A company wants a Nabto-hosted solution. The company needs 1,000 device licenses and purchases the Bronze solution, which is the cheapest Nabto-hosted solution.
The Bronze solution includes 1 hour of consultancy to get started, a basestation license for $1,995, and a base station hosting setup for $995, which both are one-time fees. It also includes a yearly hosting fee of $1,395 and software maintenance of $495, which both are charged yearly. The company chooses not to buy support, which is optional.
$1,995 + $995 + $1,395 + $495 = $4,880
The company has 1,000 devices, so the device license fee per device is $3.75. This is a one-time fee.
1,000 x 3.75 = $3,750
Total one-time payment: $4,880 + $3,750 = $8,630
Total yearly payment after the first year: $1,890
EXAMPLE 2: Nabto-hosted solution with 20,000 devices
A company wants a Nabto-hosted solution. The company has 20,000 devices and wants a SLA of 99.99 %, so it purchases the Platinum solution.
The Platinum solution includes 10 hours of consultancy to get started, a hosting uptime of 99.99 %, a basestation license for $15,995, and a base station hosting setup for $5,995 which both are one-time fees. It also includes a yearly hosting fee of $11,995 and software maintenance of $2,395, which are both charged yearly. The company also wants to buy support, which are a yearly fee of $2,395.
$15,995 + $5,995 + $11,995 + 2,395 + 2,395 = $38,775
The company has 20,000 devices, so the device license fee is $2.00 per device. This is a one-time fee.
20,000 x $2.00 = $40,000
Total one-time payment: $38,775 + $40,000 = $78,775
Total yearly payment after the first year: $16,785
EXAMPLE 3: On-premise solution with 100,000 devices
A company wants to host by itself and chooses an on-premise solution. The company has 100,000 devices and purchases the Platinum solution.
The Platinum solution includes 10 hours of consultancy to get started, and the basestation license is $31,995 as the company only has a single datacenter. The company chooses to get software maintenance for $4,795, which are free the first year, and support for a $4,795 yearly fee.
$31,995 + $4,795 = $36,790
The company has 100,000 devices, so the device license fee per device is $1.00. This is a one-time fee.
100,000 x 1.00 = $100,000
Total one-time payment: $36,790 + $100,000 = $136,790
Total yearly payment after the first year: $9,590
