One active camera, one signaling channel, one viewer per session. The starting values are illustrative; your fleet may behave differently.

Your camera fleet

Average session: 1 minute.

Shared across your AWS account. Turn this off if other workloads already use the allowance.

KVS gives you signaling channels, TURN and SDKs; the rest you build and run yourself. Nabto’s rate covers it.

What you build yourself on KVS
  • Camera identities and credentials (IoT Core certificates and role aliases)
  • One signaling channel per camera
  • A way for the app to reach a camera: Cognito credentials or a backend that signs requests and checks who may open which camera
  • Pairing without a backend
  • Running what you built
  • Keeping the camera SDK current

Nabto WebRTC includes all of the above. User identity, login and support plans stay separate on either platform.

Assumptions & sources

Check the numbers behind the comparison.

AWS KVS WebRTC

US East (N. Virginia) (us-east-1), checked 2026-10-05. The AWS WebRTC pricing example uses 0.03 USD per active signaling channel/month, 2.25 USD per million signaling messages and 0.12 USD per thousand TURN minutes.

The default 30 messages/session is a modeling assumption from that example. All cameras have an active channel for the month.

TURN media sent over the internet also incurs data transfer charges. We start with a flat 0.09 USD/GB estimate; check AWS data transfer pricing for your volume and region. The transfer rate, the message count per session and the exchange rate can all be changed under advanced assumptions in the calculator. The optional 100 GB free allowance is account-wide, shared across services and regions outside China and GovCloud.

Nabto & currency conversion

Nabto device and relay rates come from the same price list as the main pricing page. On-demand charges accumulate across device blocks. Reservations apply one volume-tier price to all devices and assume the whole fleet is reserved and used throughout the term.

Video volume uses decimal GB: minutes × 60 × Mbit/s ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000. The relay share applies to viewing time. All relayed video is charged at the applicable traffic rate.

The initial exchange rate is ECB’s reference for 2026-10-02: 1 EUR = 1.1225 USD. You can replace it under advanced assumptions. Results are estimates; only displayed amounts are rounded.

The team estimate is an editable assumption entered in EUR per year, converted to a monthly amount and added to the AWS total only when the switch is on.
